Avery Brothers Sign Company

"Avery Brothers Sign Company has been in Sioux City since 1935. It was started by my uncles, Milt and Noel Avery, after learning the sign business in New York City during the Great Depression. They did wall signs in those days, before getting into the billboard business in the 1950’s. My dad, Chuck, joined his brothers at that time and ended up managing Avery Brothers for twenty years. I learned the business from him, as well as from Mel Rustwick, the best sign artist of his time.

In 1972, when my career started, the business was a craft. Hand-lettering was the only way signs could be made then. Technology changed all that beginning in the late 1980’s and hasn’t stopped! One of the benefits of the new way of producing signs is the emphasis on the design of the signs. We saw that if the output is controlled by equipment, the input is ever more important. We love our Art Department!

In 2021, my brothers and I sold our billboards. Our new team at Avery Brothers has begun our expansion—buying trucks, remodeling our building at 416 Water Street, and upgrading our staff. We have raised pay and benefits for our employees and put in some displays to make it easier for clients to see all of the choices they have. And, we have a new management team, who you will meet. Come down to our sign shop and see for yourself!"

Our Services

1

Surveying

We will come out to your site to get measurements and scaled photos. We will use this information to determine what needs to be done to upgrade or repair existing signage or install new signage.

2

Advising & Designing

Our art department will work with you to create your sign by emailing sketches for your approval. This is the stage where any changes can be made. Once you approve a sketch, it will be moved into production.

3

Permitting

We will work with the city to get a permit for your sign. This is to make sure city regulations are met before we begin installing.

4

Installing & Repairing

We will install and repair any sign. If the sign is old or new, we would be happy to fix it and make it look new again!
